Muriel Estelle Carle
January 18, 1923 - December 16, 2020
Muriel (Muffy) E. Carle, 97, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020 at Carroll Hospital in Westminster, MD. She was born January 18, 1923 in Ashokan to Lemuel E. DuBois and Jessie M. DuBois.
She was a life-long resident of Shokan until moving with her son and daughter-in-law to Maryland in late 2017. She was the widow of Frank C. Carle who predeceased her in 2015. They were married in 1945 and enjoyed 70 years together.
Muriel was predeceased by her brothers Donald, Robert, and Merlin (Dutch), and by a sister Virginia.
She is survived by her son Terry (Kathy) and her daughter Ginny. She is also survived by grandchildren Ben Carle (Melissa), Dr. Sarah Marrone (Michael), Sarah Hoch, and Brian Hoch, and great-grandchildren Quinn Carle, Rhys Carle, Nora Marrone and Owen Marrone. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was a life-long member of the Reservoir United Methodist Church. Her family had a long history with the former Ashokan Methodist Church starting with its relocation when the Ashokan reservoir was built.
Muriel was born at home in a blizzard. She always enjoyed watching winter snowfalls. On her last day there was an unusual storm. According to her nurse, she just sat watching the snowfall, in peace.
Memorial donations are suggested to Dove House, Carroll Hospital, Inc., 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157. A graveside burial service will take place on Saturday May, 1, 2021 at 1pm in Tongore Cemetery, Olive Bridge, NY, family and friends are invited.

"Although I've known Aunt Muff all my life, In my middle aged years I got to know her better and discovered some interests we had in common. She shared her love of reading with me and we exchanged books quite a few times. She (and I) loved novels with exquisitely descriptive passages such as those of Rosamund Pilcher. I grew to love historical fiction and gave her several novels written about Appalachia. The appreciation of feathered creatures was another commonality; she especially liked owls and I enjoyed collecting owl souvenirs for her on my many travels. Memories of her and my uncle's kindness to me and my little girl and many delicious pies at the kitchen table make me smile and miss her."
