Walter James Fromer
February 10, 1920 - November 29, 1999

Walter Fromer MUSCATINE - Walter James Fromer, 79, of Lutheran Homes, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Unity Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, at the St. Mary Catholic Church, 417 Green St. The Rev. Bernard Weir will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Homes. Mr. Fromer was born on Feb. 10, 1920, in Muscatine, the son of Charles H. and Johanna Maher Fromer. He married Letha Mae Babbitt on Oct. 31, 1945, at the St. Mary's Rectory in Muscatine. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church. After over 25 years of employment he retired from the Russelloy Foundry in Durant. He also farmed part time. Survivors include two daughters, Raetta Mae Russell and her husband, Ronald, of Blue Springs, Mo., and Elsie Weikert and her husband, Mike, of Muscatine; two grandchildren, Michael Weikert Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Muscatine, and Renee DuPaul and her husband, Chris, of Kansas City, Mo.; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond and Ralph Fromer, both of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his wife, Letha, in 1996.
