"I met Clair in 1981 hiring Hartwig plumbing on my first big project. Worked with him professionally on many more over the years. Clair became a good friend and mentor. I played a lot of golf and cards with him. He loved to play jokes on everyone. As many will tell you he was hated to lose at anything. Years ago, while competing in a golf match against him he hit the ball in the creek. I took a picture of him in the creek down to his knees hitting the ball back into play. I look at it quite often remembering how he took my money that day. Marlene was the love of his life and they were the perfect couple. "

"Great golfing friend, many memories of golf trips and Elmwood matches. Clair was very competitive on course and then a genuinely fun guy afterwards. Tom Apgar"
