Mary Wilma Fountain

Mary Fountain IOWA CITY - Mary Wilma Fountain, 84, of Iowa City, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City of a sudden illness. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Harlan Gillespie will officiate. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home and Crematorium. Memorials may be made to the Mary Fountain Memorial Fund. Mrs. Fountain was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Johnson County, the daughter of Otha Leab and Stella Irene McLaughlin Mathes. She married Marion Leroy quot;Doc quot; Fountain Feb. 27, 1938, in Iowa City. They lived on a farm north of Hills before moving to Iowa City. She worked at Montgomery Ward from 1960 until 1975. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose, Twix, United Methodist Women, Johnson County Rural Women West Lucas Farm Bureau Women's Club. She was a 4-H Club leader for the quot;Graham Crackers. quot; She was a fund raiser for the West Branch High School Marching Band, past member of the West Branch First Methodist Church, Women's Society for Christian Service, Presbyterian Church in Hills, and Old Brick Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. Survivors include a son, Larry Fountain and his wife, Kathy, of Iowa City; a daughter, Karen Hradek of Madison, Wis.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, R.W. quot;Bill quot; Mathes and his wife, Shirley, of Bellingham, Wash.; two sisters, Joyce Redding of Maryville, Mo. and Norma Wells of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; a grandchild, Daryl Hradek; two sisters, Doris Mathes and Jeanne Schooley.
