Ferne Dahnke IOWA CITY - Ferne I. Dahnke, 82, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at the Washington County Hospital amp; Clinics in Washington, following a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home and Crematorium. Dr. John W. McKinstry will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be donated to the Ferne I. Danke Memorial Fund. Mrs. Dahnke was born June 3, 1918, in Washington County, the daughter of Fred Helfrich and Martha Bender. She received her education from Washington. She was a housewife. She married Richard Lukavsky on Oct. 23, 1937. She married William G. Dahnke on Aug. 10, 1957. She was a member of First Christian Church in Iowa City and was also involved with the Royal Neeghbors. Survivors include one brother, Francis Helfrich of Wilton; one sister, Dora Lukavsky of Washington; one step-daughter and her husband, Dorothy and John Sexton of Lone Tree; and many step=grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in February of 1997; her parents; four brothers, Charles, Albert, Donald and Dale Helfrich; and one sister, Marie Lukavsky.
