In loving memory of

Darrell G. Nolin
May 7, 1934 - January 5, 2021

Darrell Gene Nolin, 86 of Monroe, passed peacefully at home on January 5, 2021. Darrell was born May 7, 1934, at his parent's home in rural Monroe to John and Geraldine (Mullins) Nolin. Darrell graduated from Monroe High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to Helen (Van Wyk) Nolin at the Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City on November 8, 1957.

Darrell worked for Jasper County until the early '70s when he began farming with his father in rural Monroe. His love of farming led him to begin farming on his own. After his father's passing, his wife and twin brother, Carroll, helped him on the family farm. Darrell was often spotted in his pickup truck with his four-legged friend and protector, Duke. Darrell retired from farming in 2018.

Often spotted in the stands at Monroe and PCM, Darrell enjoyed watching his nephews' and nieces' athletic events. Darrell also enjoyed camping at the river bottom and Lake Red Rock with friends, as well as people watching and camping at the Iowa State Fair for many years. Darrell was an avid Hawkeye fan. He rarely missed watching an Iowa Hawkeye football or basketball game and attended several Hawkeye football banquets.

Darrell was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church for over 50 years and looked forward to attending Men's Club. He could often be found visiting with others in various locations around Monroe.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 63 years, Helen, his twin brother Carroll, and several nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding Darrell in death were his parents, brother Larry (Joyce) Nolin, and his sister-in-law, Marilyn Nolin.

A private family service will be held on Saturday morning. Burial will take place at Gifford Cemetery in rural Monroe. An open visitation will take place on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will not be present during visitation. Memorials may be directed to Helen Nolin in Darrell's name. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
