"Lewis White When I first met Fred it was in the late 60's. During my visits with my wife Ivy who had worked at the Southern Maid Donut Store, she often told me that Fred was a regular customer and would very often help her tidy up the store,,such as moving tables and lifting chairs at closing time which was 12 noon. He also told her of the pranks that he and Jimmy Brooks would play on one of the regular customers. When I retired I joined the gang of guys including Fred at the store on a regular basis trying to solve the worlds problems. When I lost my drivers license through illness I had to rely on someone to drive me home Fred was always the first to volunteer. One of these days when we all are able to visit the Donut Store again there will be a empty chair,Freds. He will never be forgotten"

Jimmie L. Brooks wrote on Feb 14, 2021:

"Fred J. Fife was a close friend of mine. We initially met at the Southern Maid Donut Shop in east Plano, Texas during the summer of 1981 and soon became good friends. Normally, we visited , ate donuts, and drank coffee almost every morning about 9:00 am, except whenever I was out of town. We shared similar personalities in that he loved being a jokester and playing tricks on other friends. Several times, he came to my rescue for flat tires, dead batteries, etc. Of course, I would return the favor later. After he retired, he sat around the donut shop doing nothing, until I encouraged him to start driving a school bus. The bus driving schedule allowed him to still make the donut shop for the " daily briefing " in addition to making some extra spending money. Fred was always an " upbeat person" and , above all, a TRUE GENTLEMAN. He will surely be missed !"

"Fred and I have been neighbors for 42 years. After I retired from AT&T we drove school buses for Allen ISD for more than a few years. After some persuasion on Freddie?s part he got me to join his old man?s coffee group that met every weekday at a predetermined location. Fred was designated chairman with Jimmy Brooks, Otto Bartsch, Louis White,Bob Adair, Jeff, myself, and a few others as members. The group took on world issues with little success in solving any."
