George Petsel WEST BRANCH, Iowa #45;- George Robert 'Bob' Petsel, 72, of West Branch, died Saturday, July 22, at his home from complications of cancer. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Church United in West Liberty. The Rev. Al Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be at the Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at the church with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or First Church United. Mr. Petsel was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Iowa City, the son of George E. and Beatrice M. Ritz Petsel. He married Dona Mae Petsel on Nov. 6, 1946, in San Anna, Calif. He graduated from Iowa City High School. He was a school bus driver for the West Branch School System for 22 years and farmed in the area. He was a Jack of all trades and master of none. He was a Mason, third degree, past master of Wapsinonoc Lodge No. 381, an elder of the First Church United in West Liberty where he was a member of the board. He was a Scott Township trustee, a Liberty Crusader, a board member of Lincoln Mutual Insurance, and a member of the Moose Lodge in Iowa City. He served in the Marine Corp from 1946 to 1947. He and his wife were named the South Prairie Grange couple of the year. Survivors include his wife, Dona; three daughters, Deb Petsel of Iowa City, Teri Dotson and her husband, Jim, of Wilton and Jill Schoer and her husband, Terry, of Superior Wis.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Petsel and his wife, Mary, of Columbia, Mo. and Duane Petsel and his wife, Grace Ann, of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Diane Petsel-Hertel and her husband, Ron, of Iowa City; 18 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Louise Petsel and Beverly Beth Petsel; a niece, Louise Dawn Petsel; a nephew, Richard Lowell Tammes; and a great-nephew, Brian Blair.
