"We were both saddened and shocked at Paul's passing. I first met Paul at youth basketball events. Our daughters were on the same team. I knew right away that he was a special person because of his enthusiasm and his wonderful sense of humor. He seemed to know everybody and everybody seemed to relate to him. I will always remember watching him while he ushered at church. Many times he would get so involved with visiting with people that some people went without programs. Always joking, always brightening up the area around. He was a wonderful person and I will miss the happy feeling I got when I was around him. Thank you Paul for all the wonderful things you brought into our lives."

"I went to school in Paton, Iowa where Rev. Harberts was pastor at my grandma's Presbyterian church in Paton. Our school closed, and I began school in Jefferson in 8th grade. That's when I met Paul. He was very friendly and always had the best smile. The family moved a couple of years later, so I didn't get to know him that well, but I just want to send condolences to your family. May God sustain you at this difficult time again. "

"Lynette and family, Our sympathies to you at the loss of Paul. What a great guy, always a smile and wave for his neighbors! Laugh when I think of dashing across highway 52 chasing that box spring he had helped me bring home! Thanks Paul, you were a great neighbor. RIP! Terry and Helen Miller and family"

"Mark's brother is Tim not Tom so not to confuse other classmates. Paul and I did hang out together often at Russell Park and out of respect for Paul that is all I want to share. He was alot of fun to be with and in the usual tradition of being a pastor's son we had a lot of trouble to keep up with. May his family know he was loved and cared for."

Mark Patterson wrote on Jan 14, 2021:

"My dad was the Baptist minister in Jefferson and Paul?s dad was minister at the Presbyterian church they were good friends. Paul and my brother Tom were always fighting. I remember one time the had a swearing contest at the Jefferson Park! I am sure our dads would have like to see that! The Harberts family were a wonderful family!! Blessings on your family as you miss Paul. "
