Richard Earl McCallum
March 23, 1928 - January 13, 2021

Richard Earl McCallum, 92, a lifelong resident of Rochester, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 13, 2021 at Cottagewood Senior Communities.

Richard was born March 23, 1928 in Rochester to Edward and Myrtle McCallum. He was a 1946 graduate of Rochester High School. Upon graduation, he entered the Army in September 1946, serving in World War II, as a transportation parts specialist. He was honorably discharged in January 1948, and enrolled at Rochester Junior College. While in college, he played football for Joe Rockenbach. After college, Dick worked for Northwest Airlines for a time and then started his 30+ years a North Western Bell Telephone. Dick was also a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester.

Dick met the love of his life, Donis Dell Hutton of Harmony, MN, and they married on July 26, 1953. They lived in Rochester their entire married life. He was born on 4th Ave. SE later moving to 5th Ave. SE and lived in that same address until after the 1978 flood when they moved to their final home in SW Rochester.

Dick is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donis; sons, Craig (Kate) of Stoughton, WI; Scott (Shirley) of Rochester; Jeff (Gretchen Beilke) of St. Cloud; Todd (Tara) of Sioux Falls, SD; eleven grandchildren, Marit (Nik) Hawkins; Matthew (Meghan) McCallum; Kelly and Amber McCallum; Zebulon Beilke-McCallum (Annika Schilke; Ethan McCallum; Annika, Davis, Eliza, Claire and Adelyn McCallum; and five great-grandchildren, Leisl McCallum, Callan and Bryn Hawkins; Carlie and Owen McCallum. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins along with brothers-in-law, Peter (Barbara) Hutton of Corvalis, OR; Robert (Lynn) Hutton of Cushing, MN; Dan (Arla) Hutton of Harmony, MN; and sister-in-law, Naomi Evensen of Worthington, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother George, sisters Helen McCallum and Alice (Stan Brooks; and brother-in-law Glen Evensen.
