Florence Smith WEST BRANCH, Iowa #45;- Florence E. Smith, 100, died Wednesday Nov. 9, 2000, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty following an extended illness. Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday Dec. 2, 2000, at the Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Springdale Cemetery, rural West Branch. Memorials may be made to the Simpson Memorial Home. Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 30,1900, in Otranto, the daughter of David and Christina Gorden Ramsay. She married J. Marvin Smith on May 31, 1924. She graduated from Otranto High School and attended Iowa State University. She taught Home Economics in Springdale for several years. The couple farmed in the Springdale area for many years until the death of Marvin in 1952. Florence later worked at the West Branch Bank and Burge Hall at the University of Iowa. She was a member of the Springdale United Church, Hoover Library Association, L.A.L and Kill Kare Club. She was a good friend to many people. Survivors include one daughter, Janice Salemink of West Liberty; three grandchildren, Janene Misak of Bettendorf, Sandra Schminke of Belle Plaine and Larry Salemink of West Liberty; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers and two sisters.
