Havermans,
Theodore (Ted/Theo) Wayne
Muskegon, Michigan

Theodore Wayne Havermans, age 74, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021. He was born in Muskegon, MI on October 23, 1946 to August & Shirley (Carpenter) Havermans. Ted was a graduate of Muskegon High School after which he served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era. As a result of Ted's high scoring on the military's GT Test, Ted was assigned to provide strategic troop reports to the colonel. After returning from the army, Ted attended Muskegon Community College where he met Lois, his wife-to-be. However, their career paths took them in different directions with Ted graduating from Michigan State University and Lois graduating from University of Michigan. Despite their collegiate football rivalry, they happily married on June 4, 1977 at Central Lutheran Church. Ted joined his father in managing Havermans Construction Company, later became a Real Estate Broker/Appraiser and started his own Lakeland Property Management Company. At the peak of his success, Ted owned and managed the most rental property in Muskegon. Ted had a great trust in the Lord and was a faithful member of Forest Park Covenant Church. He was an active member of the Mona Lake Boating Club and was past Vice Commodore. Ted was an avid snow skier and water skier. He also enjoyed boating, cooking, cruises and family vacations. He especially enjoyed visits to Hawaii to see his precious granddaughter, Isley. Ted was a devoted husband and loving father to his children, Audra and Brennan, who fondly referred to him as "Daddio".

Ted was an accomplished joke teller that always entertained friends with his humor. He was liked by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Ted's family envisions him released from his years of health challenges and sharing his humor and jokes with his best friends who he is joining in Heaven--Larry Rottman, Tom Wakefield and Tom Schumacher. The family is also, resting assured that our angel, Kelley Rottman, will keep a close eye on our boys!

Ted is survived by Lois, his wife of 43 years; daughter Audra (Gary) Johnson of Hawaii; son, Brennan Havermans of Muskegon; granddaughter, Isley Johnson; 2 brothers, Jim Havermans, Doug (Becki) Havermans; 2 sisters Sandy (Ron) Werner, Linda Sokolowski; step-mother, Betty Havermans and brother-in-law, Larry (Linda)Newald. He was preceded in death by a brother Terry, sister Nancy, treasured in-laws Jim and Audrey Newald and special grandmother Lucille Carpenter.

The family wants to extend their sincerest appreciation to Ted's caregivers over the past years: Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation at Mercy Health's Hackley Campus; Medilodge at the Shore Nursing Home; James Grace, MD; Christie McKinney, MD; Rick Edgar,MD; Brett VanTol, MD and all of Ted's caregivers at Mercy Health Mercy/Hackley Campus.

A Celebration of Ted's Life will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Clock Funeral Home - Muskegon. The family would ask that you consider a Memorial Gift in Ted's name to the COVID19 Response Fund and/or Healing Garden, an outdoor place where caregivers will find peace and respite away from the demands of bedside care without leaving the hospital grounds. Giving can be made online at www.mercyhealthmuskegongiving.com or checks can be made out to Mercy Health Office of Philanthropy, 1150 E. Sherman Blvd., Ste. 2100 , Muskegon, MI, 49444. "Dear Lois, Audra and Brennan, We are so so sorry for your loss!! I don?t even know where to begin. Ted was best man for our wedding, Al was best man for your wedding, and Kristi was the flower girl. Kristi had just gotten over chicken pox and we had to bribe her to go down the aisle. From there it was ski trips and summers on the water. Last year the two of you came to visit us in Florida and we will be forever grateful for those memories. Ted was the best friend, and always had a joke to tell. We will miss him greatly! Our last memory of him is caroling at his nursing home window in December. We will cherish that memory. May your good memories of him sustain you going forward. Love to you all and know we will meet up with him again, (just not too soon). If there is ANYTHING we can do, don?t hesitate. Love, Al and Kathy "

"Hi this is Kris the activity director at Medilodge at the Shore. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of caring for Ted. He always had a smile for all of us and brightened our day. I still remember the day last summer that I took him for a wheelchair ride around the block and he and I laughed and had such a good time it was the best walk I ever did with a resident. I will never forget it. You are in my thoughts and prayers."

"Lois when I think of Ted I just have to smile. He was a jokester and a quick wit. You two always remind me of a tennis match , rallying the verbal ball back-and-forth with your one-liners and affectionate tease. Heaven will be a funnier place. He will be sadly missed. You and the kids are in our thoughts and prayers. "
