Laurence E. Braun MUSCATINE, Iowa - Laurence E. Braun, 92, formerly of the Montpelier Township area and most recently of the Columbus Junction area near his grandson, Michael, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Crescent Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the St. Mathias Catholic Church, 215 West Eighth Street. The Rev. Bernard Weir will officiate. Pallbearers will be Michael Braun, Mark Braun, Matt Braun, Steve Braun and Ira Morgan. Honorary Bearers will be Kenneth Nugent Sr. and Randall Zinger. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St. Mathias Catholic Church. Mr. Braun was born on March 24, 1908, in Montpelier Township, the son of Anton A. and Ivah Belle Dipple Braun. His first marriage was to Alberto Slusher in 1931, his second marriage was to Ethel Dipple in 1939, and his third marriage was to Grace A. Griffith on Aug. 21, 1961, in Camdenton, Missouri. He was a life long resident of the Montpelier area. He farmed the family farm, which had been in the family for over 140 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and fishing. Mr. Braun was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 304, the Moose Lodge No. 388, and the St. Mathias Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Loren Braun and his wife, Judy, of Muscatine, and Randal Braun and his wife, Beckey, of Danville; a daughter, Janet Miller and her husband, Bill, of Roseville, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Alberto Braun and Grace Anna Braun and one sister, Velma Nugent.
