George Cordwell MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- George J. Cordwell, 71, of 408 W. Eighth St., died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Genesis East in Davenport. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. James Trosen will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the George J. Cordwell Memorial fund. Mr. Cordwell was born on Nov. 5, 1929, in Omaha, Neb., the son of Arthur and Marie Binder Cordwell. He married Lois A. Christofferson on Nov. 19, 1955, in Iowa City. He worked for the Quad City Times as a district manager for Muscatine, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge No. 388, Veteran of Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Air Force and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Survivors include his wife, Lois Cordwell of Muscatine; two daughters, JoAnn Carlson and her husband, Larry, of Muscatine; Kae Rudolph and her husband, Carl, of Muscatine; five grandchildren, Evan Reichert, Meghan Reichert, Shelly Cordwell, Ashley Cordwell and Brianne Cordwell; and two sisters, May Wedekind of Muscatine and Ann Orr of Omaha, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rick Cordwell; and two sisters, Pearl Wagler and Edith Call.
