Teuvo M. Airola
October 22, 1915 - February 13, 2001

TEUVO AIROLA MUSCATINE, Iowa - Teuvo M. Airola, 85, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Lutheran Homes. A time of greeting at 10:30 a.m. will precede the service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Reverends Pam Saturnia and Robert Ahlstrom will officiate. There will be no visitation and the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Airola was born on Oct. 22, 1915, in Barre, Vermont. He married Dorothy Anderson on Jan. 24, 1943, in Mine Hill, New Jersey. He was a veteran of the US Army serving as a Second Lieutenant in the Italian Campaign. He retired from active reserves as a Major in 1962. Mr. Airola was a former resident of Staten Island, New York. He received his bachelor's degree at the City College of New York, and his master's degree from Teachers College of Columbia University. He was a teacher of biology and mathematics at Dover High School in Dover, New Jersey, from 1948 until he retired in 1978. In 1961, he was awarded a Fulbright Exchange and taught at Wandsworth Comprehensive School, Wandsworth, England, for the 1961-62 school year. After his retirement from teaching they moved to Sarasota, Florida, were they resided until July of 1997, when they moved to Iowa City and then on to Muscatine in 1999. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Airola, of Lutheran Homes; two sons, Alfred M. Airola and Carolyn of Muscatine, and Stephen Arthur Airola and Elaine of Saline, Michigan; one daughter, Catherine Airola Kucenas and Clay of Orange, California; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Airola. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matti and Alma Airola, his sister, Thelma and one son, Teuvo M. Airola Jr.
