Ernest Metzger MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- Ernest C. Metzger, 72, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Lutheran Homes. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Walden Askren will officiate. Betty Lincoln will be the organist. Pallbearers will be Dustin Breuer, Jason Breuer, Brandon Burke, Brett Burke, Gary Burke, and Derek Metzger. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Morgan, Donald Morgan, Leland Morgan, Max Morgan and Terry Neeld. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery. A luncheon, following the graveside service, will be in the community room at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his memory and maybe left at the funeral home. Mr. Metzger was born on Oct. 2, 1928, in Muscatine, the son of Ernest C. and Ethel M. Houseman Metzger. He married Vera M. Morgan on Oct. 12, 1945, in Muscatine. She died Sept. 29, 2000. He was a life long resident of Muscatine. He was a machinist for Caterpillar for 30 years. He enjoyed small engines, wood-working, gardening, farm tractors and model airplanes. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific from 1945 to 1950. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara J. Foster of Wapello, Carolyn S. Lane of Muscatine and Sheila K. Burke of Muscatine; four sons, Wayne E. Metzger of Muscatine, Keith L. Metzger of Spanish Fork, Utah, David R. Metzger of Muscatine, and Jody D. Metzger of Muscatine; a sister, Dorothy M. Dixion of Rock Island; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great -grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
