Harold Riggs Jr. MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- Harold Dell Riggs Jr., 79, of Muscatine, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the Muscatine Care Center following an extended illness. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established at the Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Mr. Riggs was born May 20, 1922, in Burlington, the son of Harold and Bernice Carnegey Riggs. He married Edna Reynolds March 22,1943, in Fayetteville, N.C. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1940 and was a member of that year's Little Six Conference basketball champions. He served in the Iowa National Guard in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in North Africa and Europe. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the VFW Post. He was an independent business owner, operating Riggs amp; Ross Transfer Service. He enjoyed following his favorite sports teams, the Hawkeyes, Boston Celtics and the New York Yankees, leisure travel throughout the United States, listening to Big Band era music, and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Edna, of rural Muscatine; two daughters, Dianna Howard and her husband, Charles, of rural Muscatine and Teresa Lilienthal and her husband, Loren, of rural Clarence; a son, Commander Thomas Riggs and his wife, Sandy Hanft, of Bridgetown, Barbados; and eight grandchildren, Michael Hesseltine and Casey Dunagan, both of Coralville, Erika Hesseltine of Iowa City, Lisa Lilienthal of Tipton, Aaron Riggs of Springfield, Va., Brendan Riggs of Bridgetown and Laura and Daniel Lilienthal, both of Clarence. He was preceded in death by his parents.
