LEO HOOKS MUSCATINE, Iowa - Leo H. Hooks, 81, of 1620 Devitt Ave., died Wednesday, December 26, 2001, at Lutheran Homes where he had been residing. Services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday at the St. Mathias Church. The Rev. John P. Gallagher will officiate. Pallbearers will be Scott Hoag, Jacob Jones, Jim Burch, Brian Hooks, Kevin Hooks, and John Evans. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home with a Rosary Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Mr. Hooks was born on Feb. 23, 1920, in Little Falls, New York, the son of Harry and Ella Noonan Hooks. He married Sophia Hecox on Dec. 24, 1944, at the St. Mary's Church in Little Falls, New York. He was a graduate of Catholic University in Washington, DC. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II in the Signal Corps. He and his family moved to Muscatine in 1969, formerly residing in Corry, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the St. Mathias Church, the Elks Lodge No. 304, and the Hon Retirees. He retired from an executive position at HON in 1985. Survivors include his wife, Sophia Hooks of Muscatine; one son, Gregory Hooks and his wife, Leah, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four daughters, Ellen Kraft and her husband, Kenneth, of Bremerton, Washington, Susan Whitacre and her husband, Jan, of San Diego, California, Joan Hooks and her friend Kevin Klier of Stuart, Florida, and Carol Bachman and her husband, Neil, of Muscatine; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, John Hooks and his wife, Francis, of Finlay, Ohio; two sisters, Arlene Ehlinger and her husband, Joe, of Little Falls, NY and Ann Fulton and her husband, Louis, of Little Falls, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Eugene Hooks and one grandchild, Adam Burch.
