William ''Bill'' C. Peters
January 4, 1920 - January 4, 2002

William Peters COTTER, Iowa #45;- William C. Peters, 82, of Cotter died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. The Rev. Dave Stoufer will officiate. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery with military rites. Pallbearers are Mark Jay, Jim Wellington, Mike Pugh, Eddie Hall, Dick Clevenger and Jim Wagenknecht. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Brandon Jay, Ron Baird, Herb Eustler, Gomer Owens and Richard Reid. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the Columbus City Masonic Temple. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. Masonic Service, at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. Mr. Peters was born Jan. 4, 1920, in Cotter, the son of Omrie and Venice Bell Peters. He married Edna E. Thrasher Oct. 30, 1948, in Burlington. He served with the Naval Sea Bees Battalion from 1940-1945. He owned and operated Peters' Welding and Blacksmith and also worked for the Rath Packing Company for 10 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Columbus City; the KAABA Shrine of Davenport, where he was a 32nd degree shriner; and a member of the Columbus Junction American Legion Post No. 100. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, fishing and canning vegetables. He liked to give gifts to friends that he made from iron. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rick Peters and wife Becky of Muscatine, Danny Joe Peters and wife Twyla of Columbus Junction and William Douglas Peters and wife Rhonda of Wapello; a daughter, Bonnie Lou Peters of Davenport; five grandchildren, Stacy Pearce and husband Lincoln, Kara O'Donnell and husband Kenny, Derek Peters and wife Sarah, William Peters and Mackenie Peters; two brothers, Kenneth Peters and wife Velma of Columbus Junction and Robert 'Bob' Peters and wife Elaine of Davenport; two sisters, Pauline Breneman of Columbus Junction and Lillian Fisher of Columbus Junction and Cotter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Keith Peters.
