It was such a treat to get so much better acquainted with Tom this past year, as we talked about and worked on issues related to the historic Spear family house and barn here in Tipton. He really loved his old home, there was no doubt about that, and Tom was so supportive of all that we're trying to do to save the barn and preserve the heritage of the home. He really was a great guy-- and a wonderful big brother for his sister, Sara, too. I'm just very, very sorry that we weren't able to talk more. "Dear Pammie, As I write these words, Mary & I have both a saddened heart and a joyful spirit. Pam, we know you are missing your best friend and husband, but you can rejoice in knowing that Jesus has made Tom's body whole, renewed and pain free. Tom has touched the hearts of all his classmates with his courageous attitude during this 10-year cancer battle. We also commend you for your compassionate heart & giving countenance as Tom's caregiver during this trial. Both Tom and you, have been great examples of perseverance to us all. "We were so very sad to receive Vaughn's email today about Tom. Our hearts go out to you, Pam, and to the rest of your family. Jack had come across a picture of Tom (taken at our reunion) a few days ago and we were wondering how he was doing. We just didn't expect to hear this sad news. But we are happy we had the opportunity to see Tom this summer - what a golfer he was! This photo of him is wonderful and shows his terrific spirit. Pam - you have so many close friends in Tipton.
