Velma Petersen WILTON, Iowa #45;- Velma L. Petersen, 69, Wilton, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus, Davenport. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton. The Rev. Wayne Fredericksen will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by organist Linda Timmsen and vocalists Bill Norton, Lea Schoept, Lori Petersen and Henry Bentley. Pallbearers are Shane Boorn, Wilbert 'Will' Norton, Nicholas Samuelson, Damon Boorn, Gabriel Boorn, Joshua Petersen and Caleb Norton. Honorary pallbearers are Andrea Putman, Mindy Akers, Katie Guyer, Heidi Boorn, Brittany Petersen, Breona Boorn, Ciji Boorn, Meggan Samuelson, Keri Samuelson, Melissa Petersen and Hayley Norton. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Visitations are 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church. Mrs. Petersen was born on May 16, 1933, in Holt, Mo., the daughter of Jackson and Joy Neff Doyel. She married Wilbert M. Petersen on June 1, 1952, in Newhall. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1997. She graduated from Washington High School, Vinton, in 1952. She was a teller at Wilton Savings Bank, Wilton, for 23 years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She was also a member of Wahkonsa Country Club and golfed in the women's and couples' leagues. She enjoyed her family, fishing and was an avid card player. Survivors include four daughters, Deborah Norton and her husband, William, and Susan Boorn and her husband, Dennis, all of Wilton, Janet Boorn of Moscow and Sharon Samuelson and her husband, Jeff, of Tipton; a son, Douglas Petersen and his wife, Lori, of Wilton; three sisters, Oma Geiger and her husband, Earl, and Erma Neve and her husband, Don, all of Vinton, and Adah Schminke and her husband, Gerald, of Independence; a sister-in-law, Pauline Doyel of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her fiancé, Darrell Woodward of Wilton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Nathan Doyel.
