Maurine Whitacre BLOOMFIELD, Iowa - Maurine Whitacre, 82, of Bloomfield, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her home. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Pallbearers are Bruce, Greg and Richard Whitacre, Gary Spurgeon, Delbert Tarbell and Charles Anson. Honorary bearers will be Evalyn Rieke, Yvonne Shiflet, Mary Bleedorn and Annie Ziegenhorn. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation is 9 a.m., Sunday, with the family present from 2 - 4 p.m. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Senior Citizen Center. Mrs. Whitacre was born on Feb. 19, 1920, in Bloomfield to Bert and Lala Pitman Spilman. She married Charles Omer Whitacre on March 19, 1939, in Bloomfield. He died Oct. 21, 1987. She was a lifetime resident of Bloomfield and had been a telephone operator in Bloomfield. She also owned and operated the Bloomfield Locker and Vaughn Motor Co. in Bloomfield with her husband. She later was a teacher's aide in the Davis County Middle School. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bloomfield and worked on the election board for several years. She is survived by a daughter, Kay Brunk of Muscatine; a son, Ken Whitacre of Glenwood, four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Hining of Bloomfield and Garnett Heaberlin of Hemet, California. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
