Beryl Ruess WEST LIBERTY, Iowa #45;- Beryl Jean Ruess, 80, West Liberty, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at the Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, after an extended illness. Funeral mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Liberty. The Rev. Ed O'Melia will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, West Liberty. Visitation is 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7:30 p.m. Christian Wake Service, at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. A memorial has been established. Mrs. Ruess was born May 30, 1922, in Muscatine County, the daughter of Lincoln and Isa Clare Caskey Fridley. She married Donald Ruess Jan. 27, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1999. She graduated from Nichols High School in 1941. She had been employed at Moore Business Forms, Iowa City, for 15 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garden Club, Bridge Club, Cedar Valley Community Club, 500 Club and Altar and Rosary Society. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Ruess and wife Diane of Anamosa and Dan Ruess and wife Cindy of West Liberty; a daughter, Merry Sue Nelson and husband Lenny of Des Moines; three brothers, Bernard Fridley and wife Marie of Muscatine, Arlen Fridley of Leesburg, Fla., Robert Fridley and husband Gloria of Fruitland, Fla.; two sisters, Gladys Hillyer and husband Clarence of West Burlington and Sheila Steen and husband Jay of West Liberty; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Michael; a daughter, Cindy; two brothers, Kenneth and Roger; and a sister, Irene Skinner.
