MARY "MAGGIE" HERNANDEZ MUSCATINE, Iowa - Mary "Maggie" Magdalena Hernandez, 42, of 1548 Grant St., died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at The University of Iowa and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Reverend Sharon Phillips of the Jesus Mission will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason Villarreal, Paul Villarreal, Osvaldo Mendoza, Rafael Chavez, Conrado Frausto and Febronio Ramirez. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mary Hernandez Memorial Fund. Mary was born on July 20, 1960, in Levelland, Texas, the daughter of David G. and Mary Pesina Hernandez. She was married to Wenceslao Portillo in Muscatine. She was a 1979 graduate of Muscatine High School, she received an Associate of Arts Degree from Muscatine Community College and she also attended The University of Iowa. She worked for 14 years at the Iowa Department of Human Services in Muscatine. Her hobbies include sewing, crocheting, drawing, shopping and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all of us and stay forever young, forever beautiful, and forever loved. Survivors include her husband, Wenceslao "Wes" Portillo of Muscatine; two daughters, Mea Lei Hernandez of Muscatine and Cali Miranda Portillo of Muscatine; her parents, David and Mary Hernandez of Grandview; two brothers, Jesse Hernandez of North Liberty and Daniel Hernandez of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Tina Hernandez Zudell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Linda Chavez of Muscatine and Katarina Hernandez of Grandview; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents; Dimas and Ernestina Hernandez, maternal grandparents; Otilio and Antonia Pesina, uncles; Jose Reyes and Romeo Villarreal, and two cousins; Ida Villarreal and Eloy Garcia.
