Etta Leonard BETTENDORF, Iowa #45;- Etta Mae Leonard, 82, Bettendorf, formerly of Muscatine, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at the Genesis Medical Center - West Campus, Davenport, after a brief illness. Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the First Evangelical Free Church, 3321 Seventh St., Moline, Ill. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7:30 p.m. today at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service, Davenport. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free Church or to the Jesus Film of Campus Crusade for Christ. Mrs. Leonard was born on Dec. 8, 1920, in Mott, N.D., the daughter or Louis Aaron and Adah Rilla Treon Vasey. She married Rev. James R. Leonard on June 16, 1943, at the Methodist Church in Mott. She graduated from Jamestown College in North Dakota in 1942. She was a high school English teacher for two years and a much-loved helper for her husband in church pastorates in North Dakota, Lincoln, Neb., New York City, Minneapolis, Minn. and Muscatine until his retirement in April 1986. She served for six years in the Women's Missionary Society of the Evangelical Free Church of America as its national chairwoman of the White Cross division. She had an unique national ministry for many years sending cards and letters of Christian encouragement. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kay L. Bilger of Hastings, Minn., and Sharon R. Leonard of Anoka, Minn.; three grandchildren, Humphrey of Los Angeles, Casey of Phoenix and Carson of Hastings, Minn.; one great-grandchild; one sister, Marge Holloway of Fresno, Calif.; three brothers, Frank Vasey of Bismarck, N.D., Robert Vasey of Mott, and Dr. Ed Vasey of Fargo, N.D. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Betty; and one grandchild, Joshua Klick.
