Charles A. Waldschmidt RIVERSIDE, Iowa - Charles A. Waldschmidt, 76 of Riverside died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at his home in Riverside following an extended illness. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. The Rev. Rich Adam will officiate. Pallbearers are Thaddeus Waldschmidt, Nathaniel Barnes, Joel Barnes, Joseph Wilkinson, John Wilkinson and Kenneth Wilkinson. Burial will be at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Riverside with full military rites by the Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414. Following committal services at the cemetery a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary's Parish Center. Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Friday, March 5, with a 7 p.m. rosary at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home in Riverside. A memorial fund has been established for the Riverside First Responders, Washington County Hospice or the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Riverside at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home in memory of Charles. Mr. Waldschmidt was born April 19, 1927, in Riverside, the son of George and Albana Ehl Waldschmidt. He married Cora Wilkinson at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside Jan. 18, 1951. He served with the United States Army during WWII in Germany. He was a mill foreman for English River Concentrate for many years. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside and the Riverside V.F.W. Post # 6414. He enjoyed working in his yard and with his flower and also antiques. Survivors include his wife, Cora of Riverside; one son, Rodney of Riverside; two daughters, Glennda Wieland and her husband, Richard of Lone Tree and Judy Barnes and her husband, Jerry of Iowa City; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Waldschmidt of Riverside and one sister, Theresa Cuddy and her husband, Richard of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Firman, Omer, Bill, Richard and Edwin and six sisters, Sister Mary Edna, Sister Mary Marie, Sister Mary Laura, Agnes Fecker, Rose Bagshaw and Verena Ryan.
