Irene Forbes LONE TREE, Iowa #45;- Irene Forbes, 91, Lone Tree, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center after a short illness. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home, Lone Tree. Russ Forbes will officiate. Casket bearers are John Forbes, Neil Forbes, Scott Forbes, Mark Forbes, Steven Forbes, Philip Forbes, Gary Schmitt and Randy Cook. Honorary casket bearers are her grandchildren. Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery. After the burial, a luncheon will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Hospice. Mrs. Forbes was born July 16, 1912, in rural Riverside, the daughter of William and Grace Green Mincer. She married Daris Leo Forbes Sept. 19, 1931, in Wapello. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rebecca's and the Fremont Homemakers. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. Survivors include four sons, Gerald Forbes and wife Betty of Lone Tree, Keith Forbes and wife Ruth of Iowa City, Lowell Forbes and wife Linda of Lone Tree and Loren Forbes and wife Janet of Iowa City; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Maynard Mincer and wife Doreen of Fort Madison; three sisters, Marie Hungate and husband Earl of Muscatine, Roberta Townsend of Lake Lynnwood, Ill., and Donna Beeman of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Lois Cook; two grandsons, Darnell and Jeffrey; three sisters, Marcella Gray, Lorena Van Auken and Marjorie Criss; and two brothers, Lawrence and William.
