Roger was born August 29, 1952, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Charles E. Bishop Sr. and Dorothy Harl Bishop. He was a graduate of Dunkerton High School, Dunkerton, Iowa, class of 1970.

Roger met his beloved wife, Phyllis Parsley, in Waterloo and were married July 3, 1971. Their lifelong joke was that they met at the gas station and the only reason Phyllis married him was because he told her that "he was in oil." They were married at 18 and blessed with a beautiful marriage, being together for over fifty years. Roger worked a variety of jobs in Muscatine and then retired from the City of Muscatine. He was a forever, avid fan of the Chicago Bears football team, enjoyed bowling as well as coaching bowling, fishing, and loved playing the lottery. He is always remembered for his great smile and big hugs.

Roger attended Calvary Church. However, his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his wife Phyllis, his son Scott, and daughter Stephanie. Roger was a very proud "Papaw" to of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved going to their school activities being a loyal Muscatine Muskie fan cheering them on in everything they pursued, with the love of his life, his wife Phyllis.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Scott Bishop and his wife, Jennifer, of Fruitland; daughter, Stephanie Lerma of Muscatine; nine grandchildren, Leticia Lerma, Oscar Lerma, Alicia Garcia, Alani Garcia, Kellsey Foor (Austin Ramirez), Lauran Boyer and her husband, Scott, Arianna Bishop, Drake Bishop, and Dillon Bishop; three great grandchildren, Abilyn, Carson, and Ella; one brother, Charles 'Bud' Bishop and his wife, Darlene, of Wesley Chapel, Florida; also a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant sister, Janet Bishop

"Phyllis,, I haven't known you two all that long. I never saw Roger with a frown unless his beloved Bears were getting beaten. Think there's a Packer/Bears conversation going on in heaven?? In sympathy and friendship, Dena"

"Dear Family of Roger Bishop, May God's peace be with you now, and in the future. Roger loved visiting with people, and very often, if one saw him out & about, he likely was talking it up with a friend... he never knew a stranger. If I ran into him somewhere, he always started a conversation. He enjoyed making others smile, even on a bad day!!! He was extremely proud of his children, too. I will think of Roger with much admiration. No doubt, Roger is at eternal peace with The Good Lord now. ?? With my heartfelt sympathy... Vesta ? "

"While in high school I once thought Roger, Rog as I call him, was going to kill me. I was teasing him one day, as brothers do, and it made him so mad. I started laughing at him and he got madder and I took off running with Rog right on my tail. I ran around the garage and inside of a storage shed. Wrong thing to do. I turned around and tripped into a five gallon bucket and got stuck. Rog was right there with both hands around my throat and nearly passed out. But he looked at my face and pulled me out. But he was the greatest brother you could have. People he didn't know were immediately drawn to his friendliness and humor. He was a loving brother, father, grandfather and friend. I miss and love your brother. See you later alligator."

"Roger was definitely one of a kind. He was my first bowling coach on Sunday nights. He always took the time to stop and say Hi and talk when we saw him. When he worked for the city he always made sure that the the snow was moved from in front of the house. He hated see us shoveling the street so we could park. Roger was always good for a laugh. Scott and Phyllis your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Rest easy old friend. Nicole Hanson (Chapman)"
