Martha Jane Bryant JOY, Ill. #45;- Martha Jane Bryant, 81, Joy, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Moline, Ill. Private graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Millersburg, Ill. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, Ill. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at the funeral home for Westmer School District No. 203. Mrs. Bryant was born Oct. 20, 1922, in Mercer County, Ill., the daughter of Earl and Gertrude Williams Scranton. She married Harold E. Bryant May 25, 1947, in Joy. She graduated from Joy High School and received her teaching certificate from Graceland College, Lamoni. She was a teacher for more than 40 years, retiring from the Westmer School District. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Celesta Holmes and husband, Danny, of Walcott and Barbara Grigson and husband, Jesse, of Victorville, Calif.; a grandson, Nathan Holmes of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Karel Denkman of the Chicago area; three brothers, Earl 'Bud' Scranton of Alpha, Ill., Marvin Scranton of Geneseo, Ill., and Gerald Scranton of Independence, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
