In loving memory of

Vernice C. Schepp
August 26, 1940 - January 29, 2021

Vernice C. Schepp (80), passed away peacefully and comfortably on Thursday, January 29, 2021. She was born in Oshkosh, WI on August, 26, 1940. When she was 13 years old her family moved to Madison, WI, and she graduated Central High School in 1958. Lorrin E. "Lonnie" Schepp and Vernice married in 1959 and celebrated 54 years together. They spent their married lives in Middleton and Madison where they worked and raised their three children: Les, Vickie, and Venée.

Vernice began nursing school during her last year of high school and received her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN). When her children were in high school, she returned to college and became a Registered Nurse (RN), something she and her family were very proud of. She devoted over 35 years nursing in Geriatrics, and loved her years practicing as a nurse. She was gifted in easing the suffering of others, as evident in her nursing and also her incredibly quick and irreverent humor. Recently, while regaling an unexpected medical emergency in which required resuscitation, she told how she "was being pounded on by a bunch of good looking guys and couldn't even enjoy it". With a mix of shock and delight she was in no way shy about her feelings; no one ever wondered what was on her mind or her opinion on anything. Her direct and blunt sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

Vernice's poodles were the love of her life. She was a dedicated poodle-mom and rescued many poodles during her life. She loved her "babies" fiercely and often named them with Gone with the Wind themed names as homage to one of her favorite films. She collected 100's of beanie babies, and anything in the color purple. She loved to garden and spend time in her yard named "Tara Park". Her knack for writing short stories and jotting down daily thoughts in her many journals showed her compassionate side. Her affections were many but above all she cherished her family and friends.

She's preceded in death by her parents, William and Vivian Magnesen, her sister, Carmen Neft, and husband, Lorrin E. "Lonnie" Schepp. She is survived by her son, Leslie Schepp (Michelle), daughters; Vickie Dahlk (Ron), Venée Gardner (Roger), granddaughters; Taylor Moore (Dustin) and Kristine Schepp (Heath), grandsons; Alexander Gardner and Zachary Gardner, great-grandsons; Frankie Schepp and Brian Juarez, great-granddaughter, Melody Moore, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the UW hospital in Madison. The care and respect she received is incredibly valued, and her last wishes were exactly as she wanted.
