Barbara Bell Simon Bierner
May 16, 1946 - February 6, 2021

Barbara Bell Simon Bierner, 74, passed away February 6, 2021 with both children at her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Barbara was born in Austin, TX to the late Joel and Lena Simon in 1946. She graduated from Austin High School in 1964 and subsequently received her BA in fashion design from the University of Texas. In 1968, she married the love of her life, Michael Bierner, with whom she shared the next 49 years. Their first child, Lara, was followed two years later by their son, Jonathan. Barbara was a devoted and loving wife and dedicated her life to her children. She was deeply involved in all of her children's activities and took great pleasure in traveling with family and friends, especially to Las Vegas and on cruises. Barbara was an avid gardener and a lover of animals. She was a gentle soul, loving wife, generous friend and adoring mother. She loved her children unconditionally. In doing so, Barbara and her husband Michael promoted LGBTQ+ rights. They founded a support group (Mishpocha) for friends and family of the LGBTQ+ Jewish community. She leaves behind her children, Lara and Jonathan, siblings Steve Simon, Mark (Angelica) Simon, sisters-in-law Barbara Miller, Eileen (Stanley) Franklin, brother-in-law Mark Bierner, along with an extended loving family and life-long friends. Barbara was truly one of a kind. She was loved and will be deeply missed.
