"Kathy, I just learned today of John's passing. My sincere condolences to you and your family. "
John Clifford Herman, age 78, died on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing, Minnesota. John was born on July 28, 1942 to Clifford and Bernice (Rhodey) Herman in Elmira Township, Minnesota.
John attended school in Dover, Minnesota, and then moved to Rochester with his family. He worked for La Crescent Ready Mix in Dover. He married Kathryn Kullot on July 11, 1970 at St Pius Catholic Church in Rochester. He started working for MN Department of Transportation in 1975, doing highway maintenance with his father, before his Dad's retirement. He continued working there the rest of his career until his retirement in 2003.
John loved auto racing, especially watching both of his boy's race. He really enjoyed attending the NHRA races in Brainerd with Kathy, and local dirt track races where he got to know quite a few of the racers over the years. When he wasn't attending races, he could be found watching NHRA and Nascar on TV or keeping his vehicles spotless. John was very mechanical and could be found tinkering in the garage, working in the yard or fixing anything that needed it. He would go out of his way to help family and friends with anything they needed on a moment's notice. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and going to all their activities. You could find him at many dance competitions, soccer games, and hockey practices and games. He loved to give 4wheeler rides to them or just play on the floor like one of the kids. His love for his grandchildren was never held back. He especially enjoyed his time with his wife of 50 years. John would do anything for her, be it just hanging out around the house, watching TV, or going to racing events or to the casino with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Herman of Rochester; children, Corey (Shelly) Herman of Rochester; Chad (Ann Marie) Herman of Eyota; grandchildren, Katelyn, Hayley, Ryan, and Austin; sister, Sharon Miller of Rochester; brother, Richard (Pam) Herman of Rochester. John was preceded in death by his parents.
No services are planned at this time. A celebration of life is planned for a future time. Memorials may be given to the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester, Minnesota.

"Kathy and family, please accept my condolences on John?s sudden passing. John truly was a great asset to our MnDOT family. His snowplow truck was always in immaculate condition. He was one of the best drivers I?ve ever known, always ready to go when needed and did a superb job maintaining his section. I?m sure you have many wonderful memories as all of his co-workers do as well. May God bless each of you and know he has taken his place in heaven along side Cliff and his mom..."
