WAPELLO, Iowa - Ruth Elizabeth Havenhill, 84, of Wapello, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. The Rev. James H. Huston will officiate. Casket bearers are Shirley Messer, James Havenhill, Dennis Havenhill, Mary Havenhill, Mark Messer, and Julie Messer. Burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit. The daughter of Joseph and Ethel Lovin Colyar, Ruth was born April 26, 1920 in Grandview. She married Harold B. Havenhill on March 16, 1941 in Grandview. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1985. Ruth was a graduate of Grandview High School. She helped her husband on the farm and was a homemaker. In later years she worked at Thatcher Glass in Muscatine for ten years. Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Wapello. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Ruth loved doing things for others. Survivors include her daughter Shirley Messer of Ladora; two sons, James Havenhill and Dennis and Mary Havenhill, both of Burlington; a grandson Mark and Julie Messer of Washington; a great-granddaughter Jenna; and her lifetime close friend, Ethel Mae Elliott of Zephryhills, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant brother, Glen and a grandson, Karl Messer.
