RAYMOND WIETER MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- Raymond Robert Wieter, 76, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at Muscatine Care Center. Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 15, 2004, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser Street. Reverend John Mattingly of the First Baptist Church in Joy, Illinois, will officiate. Organist and guitarist will be Jackie Mattingly and Vocalist will be Randy Kock. Honorary bearers will be Kae Rudolph, Jo Ann Carlson, Wayne Howell, Jack Kelly and Jerry 'Wayne' Wieter. Casket bearers will be Earl Schmelzer, Larry Carlson, Carl Rudolph, Don Riddell, Bill Umlandt, and Jeff Cochran. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Combined Squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the V.F.W. Post 1565. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 14, 2004, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Bruce Wieter. Mr. Wieter was born on August 15, 1928, in Muscatine, the son of Gerald and Emilie Schmidt Wieter. He married Kathryn LouAnn Riddell on July 5, 1954. They later divorced. Raymond was a grade school Muscatine County Marble Champion, an avid bowler; he loved to play pool, bingo and watch television. Raymond attended Muscatine Schools graduating from Muscatine High School and also attended Muscatine Junior College. He served as a Tank Sergeant in the US Army Armory Division during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Thatcher Plastics for 33 years as a shipping supervisor. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 27, V.F.W. Post 1565 and the Moose Lodge No 388. Survivors include one son, Bruce A. Wieter of Joy, Illinois; one granddaughter, Stephanie Conley and husband, Eric, of Three Rivers, Michigan; one brother, Richard Wieter and wife, Evelyn, of Largo, Florida; a close friend, Alberta Schmelzer of Muscatine, and a life long friend, Lois Cordwell of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kenneth Wieter and a life long friend, George Cordwell.
