Canton - Richard L. Edwards, 88, of Canton passed away at 7:05 am, Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton. He was born on July 10, 1932 in Banner to Dewey and Marguerite (Rosa) Edwards. He married Billie Joyce Smith on February 10, 1951 in Canton. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2002. He later married Marian Pemble on March 12, 2006. She also preceded him in death on December 26, 2020. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are six children; Delitha Joy (Michael) Fulton of Canton, Valerie Gay (Jake) Peterson of Cuba, Richard Ray (Dianna) Edwards of Canton, Linda Starr Edwards of Canton, Jeffry A. (Kathy Beck) Edwards on Bolton, CT and Kelli (Jack) Furgerson of Canton, five step children; Alan (Beth) Pemble of Canton, Wendy Palazzo of Canton, Lilly (Marc) Lockman of Louisiana, Elizabeth (Buddy) Norville of Prairie City, and Gerald (Jenni) Pemble of Fairview, two brothers; Donald (Shirley) Edwards of Canton and Bill (Beverly) Edwards of Bloomington, one sister Nancy (Dick) Lingenfelter of Chillicothe, several grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Richard was a self-employed carpenter and also worked for 20 years at Caterpillar. He was known for his wood carving and furniture building skills. He also loved to garden and especially known for his tomatoes. Richard was a member of White Chapel Church in rural Canton.
Services will be 11 am Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Covid-19 mandates will be followed with masks being required. Memorials can be made to White Chapel Church or South Side Mission.
