WALCOTT, Iowa #45;- Clara Anne Mordhorst, 93, Walcott, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty. The Rev. Stan Wierson will officiate the services. Casket bearers are Tom McCleery, Jeff Weber, Don Davison, Tug McCleery, Curt Christopher and Kevin Christopher. Honorary casket bearers are Mike Grunwald and Brandon Grunwald. Burial will be at Walcott Cemetery, Walcott. Memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mordhorst was born Jan. 17, 1912, in Cedar County, the daughter of Peter and Laura Busch Schorr. She married Donald P. Mordhorst Sept. 7, 1932, in Davenport. He preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1982. She and her husband owned and operated Morts Service and Cafe, Walcott, for 21 years. She later worked at Petersen-Harned-Von Maur in Davenport and Bettendorf for 13 years until her retirement in 1986 at age 74. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott. She was active in the Walcott Senior Citizens Meal Site, serving as president for its first five years. She was a charter member of the Walcott Day Committee, she served as chairman of the 1976 Walcott Day Bicentennial Celebration and was named parade marshall in 1999. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Walcott Camp. She also served as chairperson for all elections in Walcott for more than 30 years. She received many awards for her volunteer work in Walcott. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, yardwork and volunteer work. Above all, she cherished her family and spending time with them. Survivors include three daughters, Jeanne Hensen of Palm Harbor, Fla., Donna Davison and husband Burton of Walcott and Sally Mordhorst of Durant; a sister, Frieda Glaser of Durant; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Margaret Lamp.
