Born April 17, 1979, in Riverside, California, James Ray Scott was the son of Jimmy Ray and Loretta (Kriewaldt) Scott. He graduated from Norte Vista High School in Riverside, then studied carpentry with the union and at Rancho Santiago Community College. He worked in commercial construction as a journeyman carpenter and later was employed as Site Utilities & Division Manager at Rhiners Plumbing in Clive.

Jimmy possessed a strong faith and freely shared the Gospel with those around him, even during his lengthy battle with cancer. He was a wonderful father to his three boys and was always there for them, instilling a strong love of the Lord in their hearts. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and golfing. In addition to his faith in the Lord, Jimmy will be remembered for his kindness and strength of character, as well as for his work with Future Farmers of America. His talent for building and working with his hands was valuable in his relationships and with his work with Habitat for Humanity.

Left to celebrate his life and mourn his passing are his wife, Victoria; three children, Dennis Scott of Nevada, Trent Scott and Wyatt Scott, both at home; his father, Jimmy (Kathleen) Scott of West Des Moines; his mother, Loretta Scott of Hemet, CA; a sister, Taylor Letterman of Hemet, CA; four step-brothers, Matt Miller of Clive, Dustin Miller of West Des Moines, Josh Miller of Clive, and Sean Miller of West Des Moines; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Jimmy was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vivian.
