"Our deepest sympathy to your family. Nancy was such a great friend & we shared lots of great times. She will always be missed by her family & her many friends. Don & Sue Sanderson"
Onna Lee (Nancy) Dobson died on March 9th, 2021 at Israel Family Hospice House, Ames, IA. A woman of faith, she was loved by her husband, Donald V Dobson, who preceded her in death. Beloved of her three children, Meg E Dobson, Dennis (Vivian) Dobson, and Beth Maurine Miller, she was an active grandmother of eight, great-grandmother to eleven. Our extended family remain wrapped in her love, wisdom, and strong will - even after her passing.
An award-winning artist, Nancy worked in oils and was a decades-long member of The Brush Club, meeting last in her backyard during Covid. Her work graces many homes and art donations included Mary Greeley Medical Center, NAMI of Central Iowa, Green Hills Retirement Community, Younkers of Ames business offices, and others. No one passed her home of sixty years without enjoying her garden and welcoming front porch. She was an exceptional grower and keeper of legacy family plants. The deer were a continuing challenge, but birdfeeders were constantly visited.
Bridge friends survived Covid with games in her 'she' shed with stained glass window and her Hobbit door. Nancy was an avid genealogist. She and Don visited ancestor gravesites, including up an Appalachian mountain 'behind the last field and head up.' Both were active in preserving Palestine Cemetery in Decatur County, IA.
Services pending. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in her name to United Way of Story County which provides services and programs for her namesake and grand-daughter OnnaLee Miller. Donate here: https://www.uwstory.org/memorials

"To Meg and all the Dobson family, we are so sorry for your loss. Your mother sounds like an amazing person, who will always be missed, but will put a smile on your face when you think of her. We didn't have the pleasure of knowing Nancy, but are grateful to have known Don and to know Meg. God bless you all. Holly and Bob Greiner"
