Eugene Sander Memorial gathering: 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 17, Willow Creek Golf Club, Rochester, Minn. ROCHESTER, Minn. #45;- Eugene Sander, 70, Rochester, died of cancer Friday, April 8, 2005. He graduated from Delaware Valley College and received a Ph.D. from Iowa State University. After heading a research group at General Mills for several years, he became Assistant Professor of Food Engineering at the U of Minnesota. He moved to Muscatine in 1978 to direct the technical service department at GPC, where he developed the agglomerated maltrodextrin that has become so widely used in the food industry. There he met his Muscatine-native wife, Pamela McRoberts Sander. He later founded a gourmet birdseed company, called 'Muscatine Gene's'. In 1981, he founded IFP Inc. in the old Vernon Co-op creamery near Oslo, Minn. IFP grew to 200 employees and four locations. He was proudest of IFP's contribution to local economies and employee skills. He also served on the Delaware Valley College Board of Trustees and numerous educational advisory councils. He cherished grandfatherhood. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Beth and grandson, Jacob; a son, David; previous wife, Polly; a stepson, Douglas; two sisters, Rita and Josephine; and a brother, Herman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Marguerite; a sister, Pauline; and a son, Mark.
