Mae Weller Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, Jones-Eden Funeral Home, Washington. Visitation: after noon today, with family present from 6-8 p.m., funeral home. WASHINGTON, Iowa #45;- Mae Weller, 69, Washington, died Friday, April 29, 2005, at her home surrounded by family members after a courageous battle with cancer. The Revs. Richard Boyd and Ed O'Melia will officiate the services. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Harper. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Washington County. Mrs. Weller was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Keokuk County, the daughter of John E. and Grace Linnenkamp Horras. She married James D. Weller June 2, 1959, in Des Moines. She graduated from St. Elizabeth's High School, Harper, in 1954. In 1956, she graduated from Ottumwa Heights Junior College and taught first grade in Burlington. She then completed her bachelor's degree at Drake University, Des Moines, and then taught third grade in Montezuma for several years. After the family moved to Washington, she taught second grade at St. James Catholic School for four years. Upon completion of her master's degree from the University of Iowa, she finished her teaching career at Columbus Community Schools, retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Washington. She has a life long love of good horses, winning many trophies and awards. She enjoyed decorating, reading, flower gardens, caring for her farm and spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. Survivors include two sons, Michael Weller and wife Teri of Washington and Steven Weller and friend Leigh Christenson of Rose Hill; four grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Wininger of Ankeny; a brother, Dean Horras of Harper; nieces and nephews; and her companion, Roger Howe. She was preceded in death by her parents.
