Fr. Walter (Wally) Balduck, OFM Capuchin
August 21, 1935 - March 19, 2021

Fr. Walter P. (Wally) Balduck died on Friday, March 19th at St. Bonaventure Monastery at the age of 85 of cancer. Born and raised in Detroit, he was the son of the late William and Ann (Murphy) Balduck. After graduation from Servite High, he served in the US Army, discharged in 1959, and was in the Army Reserve until 1965. After graduation from University of Detroit, Fr. Wally taught in Detroit Public Schools and was employed by Northwest Airlines.

In 1966 he entered the Capuchin Order and was ordained on June 9, 1973. Throughout his life as a Capuchin, he served in various Capuchin staffed parishes as pastor, Director of Queen of Angels Retreat in Saginaw, as well as ten years in Nicaragua and Panama. During his summer visits to Detroit, Fr. Wally helped on weekends in various parishes in the Archdiocese. He retired at St. Bonaventure Monastery in 2019.

Fr. Wally will always be remembered for his wonderful stories and would never refuse a good game of cards with family and friends.

He is survived by his siblings, Marianne Kominski, Richard, Elizabeth Stieler, Mary Miester, and Gloria Gorham. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, William Jr., Charles, James, and John.
A private Mass and burial has taken place at St. Bonaventure Chapel and Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Chapel on June 11th at 10:30am for family and friends.
