Shirley Jean Clemens
March 16, 1941 - March 22, 2021

Shirley Jean Clemens, 80, of Wellsburg, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, Iowa. She was born on March 16, 1941, to Paul and Florence (Buss) Nieman.

Shirley attended school in Aplington and at East High in Waterloo. She received a nursing degree from Hawkeye Tech and became an LPN. Shirley worked as an LPN for over thirty years at various hospitals, surgery centers and long-term care facilities. She married Gary Clemens on May 20, 1972, in Clear Lake.

Shirley enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She made clothing, Halloween costumes, afghans, and even cabbage patch kids dolls from kits she had purchased. Shirley's favorite time of the year was Christmas and she enjoyed sharing presents and homemade pies and cookies with everyone she knew and even some she didn't know; no one ever went without. She had a big heart and will be missed by many.

Shirley is survived by her husband, of almost forty-nine years, Gary Clemens of Wellsburg, sons James Clemens of Waterloo, Matthew Clemens of Wellsburg, Todd Oldenburger of Muscatine, and Michael Oldenburger of Primghar, sister Phyllis (Randy) Tansey of Brandon, grandchildren Tanner Clemens, Maddie Clemens, Nicholas Biber, Natalie Lane, Jake Oldenburger, Janessa Oldenburger, and Jasmine Oldenburger. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Florence, sisters Sharon, Sandy, Vivian and Penny, son Jeffrey Oldenburger and daughter Lessa Jo Eshelman.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, 902 W Broadway St., Dumont. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in the Dumont Cemetery.
