March 1, 1930 - March 26, 2021

John Harvey Bloom, 91, of Rural Laurel, IA passed away Friday, March 26, 2021 in a house fire at his home. A private graveside service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Graceland Cemetery. John was born March, 1 1930 to Harvey Jacob and Marjorie (Albers) Bloom on a farm south of Laurel, IA. He attended Laurel schools where he excelled in baseball and basketball and graduated from Laurel High School in 1948. He married Shirley Joan McCoy from Montour, IA on September 11, 1948. They were blessed with five daughters and one son.

John devoted his life to farming the ground his German Ancestors founded in 1868. He also worked as an Account Executive for Paine-Weber. He loved sports, fishing, old country music, dancing, singing and family.

John is survived by his six children: Florence Denise (Terry) Fountain, Cass Lake, MN; Deborah Jacobson, Marshalltown, IA; Jane (Cal) Wiseman, Gilman, IA; Judy (Brian) Dodds, Nahariyya, Israel; Sheryl (Bill) Mason, Grinnell, IA and John J. ( Ann Dee) Bloom, Laurel, IA. Twelve grand children: Teresa McCall, Craig Cary, Melissa Holmes, Christen Wilbanks, William Wiseman, Angela Foster, Mechelle House, Patrick Laverty, Holly Gustin, Margaret Laverty, Aurora Stowell and John Andrew Bloom. Nineteen great- grand children plus one on the way and five great great grand children plus one on the way.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Shirley, his parents, two sisters: Mary Campbell and Beverly Benson two son-in-laws: Richard Holmes and Craig Jacobson; and one grandchild Justin Campbell.
