Lynette Renee" Henry
July 7, 1964 - March 11, 2021
Lynette Henry, 56, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2021 at her home in Galveston. She was born in Dayton, OH on July 7, 1964 and was a 1982 graduate of Lamar High School and attended Houston Community College and University of Houston.
She is survived by her dearest mother, Dr. Paulette Arana DDS and Robert D. Goldstein, stepfather Dr. Antonio Arana, beloved son Adrian Buller (all of Houston), and her Aunt Judy Sepeck of Dayton. She was pre-deceased by her father William R. Henry of Dayton.
Lynette recently moved to Galveston Island and loved starting her day with peaceful walks in the early morning light collecting seashells and feeding seagulls. She was so happy with life on The Island. It must have brought back childhood memories collecting flat rocks with her mother they would later paint together seeing and creating images turning rocks into unique objects of art. This influenced her eclectic eye and a lifelong love of art through her ability to see beauty and create art from any object.
Upon seeing the 1970 movie "Love Story" they used the aphorism "Love is Never Having to Say You're Sorry" creating art objects which influenced her lifelong love of art.
Lynette's career included working at The Lighthouse for the Blind prior to joining The Orange Show for Visionary Art where she was Program & Educational Outreach Coordinator for over a decade. She was the driving force behind the afterschool art curriculum and drove the elaborate art bus to schools encouraging children (and adults) to express their artistic creativity.
Lynette was a free spirit. She delighted in turning her Volvo into the colorful, signature "Scooby Doo" Mystery Machine van and had a love of all things Art Car.
Just prior to her death, she was putting together an organizing committee to bring her beloved Art Car Parade Weekend Festival to Galveston. This longtime popular parade, art & music weekend festival could draw large crowds to Galveston to help boost The Island's tourism. The Houston Art Car Parade has attracted nearly 300,000 people along the parade route. Lynette was always thinking of how she could further expand people's exposure to the gifts of creativity and the many forms of art.
She was a most attentive, loving and devoted mother to her son Adrian. She became the helpful daughter all mothers wish to have in their life. With her mother's recent retirement from practicing dentistry in Houston for over 20 years, Lynette would call her best friend every morning and ask, "What are you doing today Mom?" Then hearing the list, Lynette would say, "Well, I'd better come help you!"
Lynette was a beloved team member of the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art and a Celebration of Lynette's life will be held April 11, 2021 from 1-3pm at Smither Park: 2441 Munger St. Houston 77023.
