In loving memory of

Jane Carlson
February 15, 1941 - April 15, 2021

Laura Jane Lindberg Carlson was the first child born to H.R. (Lindy) and LaVonne Peters Lindberg on February 15, 1941. Jane was born in Fort Dodge, IA and named after her great-grandma. At the baby shower before she was born, all of the guests wrote down a name for the new baby, and of course LaVonne had no choice but to go by her Grandma's suggestion of Laura Jane.

The Lindberg family lived in many small towns in Iowa. Lindy worked for the farmer's cooperative system and he took promotions around the state as he raised his young family. The family had stops in Boxholm, Peterson, and Gowrie, before settling in Fort Dodge for many years. Jane graduated from Gowrie HS as did her sister Eileen. Brother Jimmy attended Fort Dodge HS before passing away shortly after his 17th birthday in 1968.

Jane attended nurses training for a short period of time after HS, but then met her Johnny and decided that would be her life and they married February 3, 1962. Karen joined the family later that year, then Scott in 1963 and Chad in 1969.

Like her father, husband John also worked for the cooperative system so the family moved around to Bode, Lanyon, Laurel, and Gilman before settling in Prairie City in 1974. The one constant through all of those years was Jane lovingly raising her kids, and always saying that was the only job she ever wanted.

In Prairie City Jane had many interests. She helped at school when her kids were that age, she was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church and sang for many years at church with her beautiful soprano voice. Christmas Eve won't quite be the same without her and Jean singing, "Were you There on that Christmas Night?" Jane also enjoyed her garden and shared her love of quilting with her daughter. Jane was a member of Chapter AV PEO and the Prairie City Garden Club.

In 2006, on Easter Sunday, John and Jane moved to their "ranch" two miles south of Prairie City. They were proud of their beautiful home and felt blessed to live next door to the Gilsons. Her most favorite times were family Sundays when everyone would loudly gather and laugh and eat her delicious meals. Just three years after their move John would suffer a stroke and be confined to his home and wheelchair for the rest of his life. Jane faithfully cared for him at home until 2015 when John's care requirements became extensive. Jane truly lived her vows of, "in sickness and in health" and her devotion was beyond measure.

In 2018 Jane sadly lost her mother LaVonne and sister Eileen within two weeks of each other. One year later Jane was diagnosed with the same lung cancer that had taken her sister. She was able to fight the cancer for over two years and lived on her own up until the last few days.

Jane lost John on June 4, 2020 but she is survived by the luckiest children and grandchildren that there have ever been. Jane helped raise all of her grandchildren and they were the greatest source of pride and joy in her life. Her family includes; Karen and Rick Gilson and their children Gabe, Joe, and Abbi; Scott and Shelly Carlson and their children Zoe, Lindey, and Grace; Chad and Sherri Carlson and their children Hope, John, and Faith. Jane is also survived by her brother-in-law Jim Miles, her nieces, nephews, cousins and their families, her faithful caregivers, and many treasured friends.

A celebration of life and remembrance will be held at Jane's home on Sunday, April 25 from noon to 4. The family will be there to greet friends and family and share stories and memories throughout the afternoon. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City United Methodist Church. A private burial will be held at a later date.
