Hazel Ruth Scheitel
November 2, 1933 - April 19, 2021

Hazel Ruth Scheitel, 87, of Rochester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Seasons Hospice.

Hazel was born November 2, 1933 in Deerfield Twp, Steele County, Minnesota to Carl and Elsie (Rafoth) Beese. She was a 1950 graduate of Medford High School and went on to Mankato State before finishing up at St. Marys School of Nursing in 1955. Hazel spent her entire working career as a registered nurse and retired in 1995. On July 3, 1955, Hazel married Marvin Scheitel in Medford. Marvin and Hazel raised their family in Byron, MN. Hazel was a faithful church member all her life. She enjoyed becoming more involved with Bible studies and church circles after she retired. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading non-fiction novels. She enjoyed knitting and also crocheted afghans for her entire family. Mowing the lawn and blowing snow were enjoyable -- as was watching Minnesota sports on TV. Hazel had a passion for music from a young age. She learned to play piano from her mother; in turn she also taught both Joyce and Mark to play and music has been an important part of both of their lives. Hazel was the true matriarch of her family, the caregiver to everyone, ahead of her time and was always supportive and encouraging to her family.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Ian) Graue; son, Mark (Sidna) Scheitel; grandchildren, Stephanie (Nathan) Rauh, Jenna (Cory) Scheitel, Marianne (Sam) Kerski, Theodore Scheitel, Andrew (Sarah) Graue, Catherine (Lincoln Quilliam) Graue, Thomas (Mei-Lin) Graue; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, David, Kiara, Lucy and Joseph Rauh. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; sisters, Veva Baden and Lois Lamb; infant brother, Carlton and by her parents.
