Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, St. Marys Catholic Church, Strawberry Point, Iowa. Visitations: 2-7 p.m. Friday, March 17, Roberson Funeral Home, Strawberry Point, with a scripture reading at 7 p.m.; and one hour prior to services Saturday, church. Edward James Ohl, 86, Strawberry Point, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at N.E. Iowa Regional Medical Center, Manchester. The Rev. Paul Peters will officiate. Casket bearers are Mike Ohl, Mark Ohl, Mike Nus, Garrett Montour, Grant Montour and Brad Chambers. Burial will be at Strawberry Point Cemetery with military rites. Mr. Ohl was born Dec. 29. 1919, in rural Hazelton, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Florence Fowlkes Ohl. He married Lavonne Agnes Ohl on Nov. 5, 1942, in Strawberry Point. She preceded him in death Sept. 31, 1999. He was a farmer and miller, worked in construction and was the city superintendent. He lived in Strawberry Point for most of his life. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and playing dominos and cards. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of corporal. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Montour and husband Greg of Des Moines; a son, James Ohl and wife Donna of Muscatine; a sister, Nira Fousek of Oelwein, Iowa; five grandchildren, Mike Ohl and wife Sarah, Mark Ohl and wife Beth, Michelle Nus and husband Mike, Garrett Montour and Grant Montour and wife LeAnne; and four great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Geoff and Drake Montour and Carter Ohl. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and siblings, Ethel, Clarence, Richard, Fran and Peg.
