Randy was born on October 23, 1951 to Arnold and Florence Miller, in Dumont, Iowa. Growing up he was active in sports and farming and enjoyed music as well.
After graduating from Dumont High School in 1969, he moved to Ames, Iowa, where he attended Iowa State University and majored in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. In 1973, he moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and started his life-long career at 3M. It was here, where he and the love of his life re-connected.

On October 12, 1974, Randy and Deb were married in Dumont and created their first home in the suburb of Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Randy was working for 3M and was based out of St. Paul. In 1976, they had their daughter, Kimberly who was soon followed by their son, Gregory in 1979.

In the summer of 1981, the Miller's packed up their belongings and ventured 3 ½ hours south down to Ames, Iowa. It was here that they would build a life of love and friendship and live their best life. Randy worked as a resident engineer at the 3M plant in Ames and retired after 43 years in the spring of 2016. He loved playing golf, whether it was on the Men's League, Moose League or Friday Night Couple's league, was active in The Moose Lodge and helped with his kid's youth sports. He was heavily involved in their church, Christ Community of Ames, participated in several Bible Studies and ushered most Sunday services. He loved taking a trip every spring with Deb and their friends, going on annual family vacations, and enjoyed hunting each fall and winter. Randy was a Cyclone through and through - enjoying the many years of season tickets for Football and Basketball. Randy was known for his gentle spirit, kind heart, and good sense of humor. To know Randy was to love Randy.

He is survived by his wife, Deb, daughter Kimberly (Cecil), son Gregory (Jacque), 3 grandsons (Zach, Sean, and Braylon), 3 step-granddaughters (Genesus, Joyous, and Justus), brother Kendall (Alaine), brother in law Tom VanDyke (Lori), nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was proceeded in death by his Father and Mother, as well as his Father and Mother in law.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the family, which will be designated to a cause special to them at a later time.
