"Bill" Stegmiller, 79, Taylor Ridge, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at his home. Burial will be at Edgington Cemetery, Edgington, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edgington Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanfuneralhome.com. Mr. Stegmiller was born April 10, 1926, in Adrian, Mich., the son of Servine H. Stegmiller and Alice Walker Stegmiller. He married Darlene Eckhardt on April 8, 1951, in Rock Island County, Ill. She preceded him in death Nov. 23, 1987. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, in which he served on a minesweeping team in Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He was a carpenter for many years. He retired in 1986. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Andalusia Fire Protection District. He served as a scoutmaster for a time with the Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid collector of S-gauge model trains. Survivors include his children, Peggy Fox and husband Jim of Wilton, Iowa, Robert Stegmiller and wife Kathy of Taylor Ridge and Kenneth Stegmiller and wife Mary of Prophetstown, Ill.; grandchildren, Todd Stegmiller, Tara Stegmiller, Matt Fox, Aaron Fox, Christine Fox, Angie Stegmiller and Allie Stegmiller; stepgrandchildren, Shawn Grimes and Michele Stevens; and a sister, Veronica McRae, Burlington, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Marty Stegmiller; one brother; and one sister.
