Elizabeth Holst Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant. Visitations: 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, Bentley Funeral Home, Durant; and one hour prior to services Thursday, church. Elizabeth Alice Holst, 87, Walcott, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus, Davenport. The Rev. Nancy Hoelter will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by organist Deb Mohr and vocalist Henry Bentley. Casket bearers are Mark Rathjen, Wil Rathjen, Brian Crawford, Scott Crawford, Angie Snell, Karen Crawford, Tiffany Jensen and Eve Rathjen. Burial will be at the Walcott Cemetery, Walcott. Memorials may be made to Durant Ambulance or the Walcott Fire Department Mrs. Holst was born Feb. 1, 1919, in Scott County, the daughter of Christian and Alice Mohr Grell. She married Hugo W. Holst on March 6, 1940, in Davenport. She taught in country schools in Butler, Liberty and Hickory Grove townships. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Scott County Farm Bureau and the Walcott Day Committee for 20 years. She was a 4-H leader for many years in Cleona Township. She enjoyed reading and writing. She had written numerous articles for the Walcott Reporter in the Northscott Press. She loved her family and their time together. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sandra Rathjen and husband Leo of Durant, Marlene "Jo" Mullen and husband Dale of Muscatine and Betty Crawford of Valinda, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jessie Olson of Eldridge and Henrietta Weaver of Donna, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marion Matzen; and three brothers, James, Horace and Henry Grell.
